Malayan Black Magpie

Scientific Name: Platysmurus leucopterus
Malay Name: Burung-Kambing Barat
Chinese Name: 白翅鹊

Breeding Range: (OR) Malay Pen., Sumatra.



All black with band of white along greater coverts and tertials. Long, broad tail.

Habitat: Forest edge of mature or well-grown secondary growth.

Behaviour/Ecology: Often found foraging at upper or mid-canopy level. Presence often given away by raucous, distinctive call.

Local Status: Very rare non-breeding visitor.

Conservation Status: Least Concern (BirdLife International 2016)

Location: A single individual at Hindhede Nature Park on 9 June 2021.
