Range

Occurs from southern Myanmar and Thailand east through Indochina to southern Vietnam, south through the Thai-Malay Peninsula, Riau Archipelago, Sumatra, and Borneo.

Identification

Adult has blackish head with small white supercilium, white throat, black breastband, upperparts greyish-brown, and white underparts. Tail sooty grey with broad white tips on outer tail feathers, central four tail feathers lacking white tips. Juvenile is duller grey, with rufous tips to upperparts and coverts, along with light rufous supercilium.

Habitat

Gardens, forests, scrubland, and mangroves; often near water.

Behaviour

In pairs or mixed flocks, forages actively in the understorey, catching insects by sallying.
