Range

Breeds across Eurasia; winters to northern Africa. A vagrant in Singapore.

Identification

Sparrow-like songbird with heavily streaked brownish upperparts and a short crest. Face unstreaked with pale supercilium and dark ear coverts. Dark streaks across breast; pale underparts with faintly streaked flanks.

Habitat

Grasslands.

Behaviour

Runs on ground in a mouse-like fashion.
