_Birds of Singapore_ is already a mobile app

A quick guide to adding Birds of Singapore to your phone's home screen so it functions just like an app.

“When are you making a mobile app?” is a question we get a lot. It now exists!Birds of Singapore is built to work as both a mobile app and a website. All that really means for you is this: instead of downloading it from an app store, you add it to your phone straight from the website – and once you do, it's just like any other app on your phone. It gets its own icon on your home screen, it opens full-screen, and many of the pages will work without a network connection. Here's how to set it up.On an iPhone or iPadThis works best on Safari.Open singaporebirds.com in Safari.Tap the Share button – the square icon with an arrow pointing up, found in the toolbar.Scroll down the list of options and tap Add to Home Screen.Tap Add in the top corner. On an Android phoneAny recent version of Chrome will offer this. Other browsers might work too.Open singaporebirds.com in Chrome.Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.Tap Install app, Add to Home screen, or Install and create shortcut.Confirm by tapping Install.Offline modeCurrently, only the most used pages – checklist, species pages, and family pages – are available offline. You will need to create an account to use the website offline, then under Preferences, tap Make available offline. What changes once it's installedOnce it's on your home screen, tapping the icon opens Birds of Singapore just like a mobile app. Why we've done it this wayBuilding a mobile app and a website separately saves us time and allows us to add updates much faster without having to worry about having to maintain two versions of the same thing.
